Generations loses its legacy 20h00 timeslot after The Four of Us premiere
In a sudden and unexpected schedule shake-up starting Monday, 27 July 2026, SABC1 is swapping the broadcast times for its flagship soaps, Uzalo and Generations: The Legacy.
While the SABC framed the decision as a routine primetime refresh, official statements offered no concrete rationale for moving Generations out of the 20h00 slot—a time it has anchored for nearly its entire 32-year run, barring its initial premiere on CCV-TV and the notorious “Generations 16” off-air period.

However, industry observers suspect the move is a direct response to heightened competition. The shift closely follows e.tv’s launch of the heavily promoted drama The Four of Us directly in Generations‘ 20h00 timeslot.
Without transparent audience measurement data, two primary theories emerge: either SABC1 is deploying its top-rated powerhouse, Uzalo, to counter The Four of Us, or it is shifting Generations to a safer slot to protect its viewership. The sudden maneuver mirrors past scheduling shifts, such as Scandal! moving timeslots following Skeem Saam‘s shift to 19h30.
