Meta officially launches Threads; Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has officially unveiled Threads, an application designed to directly compete with Twitter, presenting the most substantial challenge to Elon Musk’s struggling social media platform.
On Threads, users have the capability to share text and links, as well as engage with other users’ messages through replies and reposts.
The app enables users to migrate their existing follower lists and account names from Instagram, Meta’s immensely popular photo and video-sharing platform boasting over 2 billion users, including prominent brands, celebrities, and content creators.
According to Mark Zuckerberg, the app garnered approximately 10 million sign-ups within the first 10 hours of its launch.
Simple calculations indicate that between 250 and 350 individuals from over 100 countries are registering every second. The number of registrations would likely have been higher if Threads had been launched in the European Union. However, Meta is currently working on ensuring compliance with GDPR regulations, and users in the EU will have to wait before registering on the platform.
Getting started with Threads is effortless. First, download the Threads app from the Apple App Store, Google Play Store, or access it on desktop via threads.net.
You can log in using your existing Instagram account, with your Instagram username and verification seamlessly carried over, providing you with the option to personalize your profile exclusively for Threads.
Users under the age of 16 (or under 18 in certain countries) will have their profiles automatically set to private upon joining Threads.
You can opt to follow the same accounts you follow on Instagram and discover more individuals who share similar interests. The core accessibility features available on Instagram, such as screen reader support and AI-generated image descriptions, are also integrated into Threads.
The service will soon introduce additional features, including suggested posts, an enhanced search function, and improved navigation to stay up-to-date with real-life trends, akin to hashtags.
