Another musician has broken off their relationship with Open Mic Productions, the contentious label.
This departure comes months after the departures of three other employees, artist manager Brendon Maseko, and their legal counsel and managing director (MD), Nkateko Maluleke.
The departures of Makhadzi, Prince Benza, Master KG, and Nomcebo from the label to pursue their solo careers signaled a time of instability for Open Mic Productions.
This time, the company has publicly revealed that rising talent DJ Obza is leaving to pursue his career as an independent artist.
The DJ left the label because he felt that he was being “neglected,” according to a close source. According to the insider, “He felt like he wasn’t getting much attention over his years with the label.”
It seems that the more well-known artists were the main focus. The insider went on to say that although DJ Obza released albums, none of them really took off, therefore in comparison to other more well-known celebrities, he was always working.

Being a member of this outstanding team has been an honor.
The insider tells Zimoja, “Of course, he would say that” despite the positive tone of his comments. We all know he wasn’t happy, but he doesn’t want to burn his bridges.
DJ Obza expressed gratitude for his years with the label and praised the priceless experiences he has acquired. He made it clear that it was time for him to consider pursuing an independent artistic career.
The music executive for Open Mic Productions, Lionel Jamela, did not respond to requests for comment.
